GOP Rep. Newhouse, who voted to impeach Trump, wins Washington primary, NBC News projects

GOP Rep. Dan Newhouse who casted a ballot to reprimand previous President Donald Trump last year for his job in the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Legislative hall, has won his essential in Washington, NBC News projects.

Newhouse progressed out of Tuesday's essential in Washington's fourth Congressional District, beating Republican challenger Loren Culp, a competitor supported by Trump.

The four-term officeholder will confront Democrat Doug White, who additionally propels, NBC News projects, in the locale evaluated as strong Republican this fall. Reps. Peter Meijer, R-Mich., and Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash., two others who voted to impeach the former president, also faced primary challengers backed by Trump on Tuesday in contests that marked a test of Trump's influence in GOP elections. Meijer was defeated by John Gibbs, a former Trump administration official.
